Tragedy struck a north Phoenix neighborhood when a shooting resulted in one fatality and left another person with critical injuries, as FOX 10 Phoenix reported that Michael Tusa, 27, lost his life after being shot near Thunderbird Road and 26th Avenue, he was pronounced dead after being transported to a nearby hospital on May 24. The second victim's struggle for survival continues in the hospital with injuries described as life-threatening. In the wake of the violence, the Phoenix Police Department is actively searching for multiple suspects believed to have fled the scene before their arrival.
While little is known about the circumstances that led to the shooting, it occurred Saturday afternoon at a freeway underpass, an area where families typically spend their weekends unwinding in the open air, as noted in a neighbor's lament captured by AZFamily, “You’re like man, I thought we were supposed to be having barbecues and celebrating.” Another resident echoed this unease, saying, "It’s something that I know is going to happen anywhere, but it’s something I don’t want my kids to grow up around."
The police have not yet detained any suspects, and the tension in the neighborhood is palpable as families await answers and action, a man living nearby told AZFamily, “It’s scary. Cause you don’t know who it is or where they’re at, and they can be anywhere,” revealing the fear that the unknown shooter or shooters could still pose a threat.
