Two victims were caught in gunfire earlier today outside a local bar in Jacksonville's San Marco neighborhood, leaving a man dead and a woman injured. According to News4Jax, the incident occurred after the Locals' Bar on Kings Avenue had closed for the evening, around 2:30 a.m.
Witnesses reported an argument in the parking lot spiraled into a deadly confrontation. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office stated the man succumbed to his injuries on the scene, while the woman was promptly transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. As per the Action News Jax report, both individuals are believed to be in their 30s.
The Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the case with numerous individuals detained, including the suspected assailant, though no formal arrests have been announced. Surveillance footage from adjacent businesses is being reviewed to piece together the events of the tragic incident. As noted by Sgt. Steve Rudlaff in a statement obtained by First Coast News, the authorities believe this to be an isolated event and assure that there is no broader threat to public safety.
The investigation continues as the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office calls on anyone with information to come forward.
