
Tragedy struck yesterday night on Capital Boulevard/U.S. 1 near Star Road in Wake Forest, where a fatal three-vehicle crash left one woman dead and three others with serious injuries, as reported by CBS17. Wake Forest Police Department has since stated that charges are pending against the man who was driving southbound in a northbound lane, precipitating the collision with the two other vehicles. The impact occurred around 11:15 p.m., leading to a significant closure of the road for investigative purposes until approximately 3:45 a.m. the following morning.
The identity of the woman who did not survive the incident has yet to be disclosed, adding a somber note to an already grim situation as authorities work through the aftermath detailing the crash unfolded, the driver responsible has not been named and with officials still piecing together the events that led to the tragedy the community is left with more questions than answers for now. Alongside the fatal loss, WRAL reports that three additional victims were transported to the hospital in a critical condition.
Following the collision, an extensive road closure encompassed both the northbound and southbound lanes of Capital Boulevard, causing significant delays and detours until the early hours of the morning. According to The News & Observer, the lanes were shut down for about four-and-a-half hours while the State Highway Patrol and police officers conducted their on-scene investigation. The severity of the crash prompted an immediate and thorough response from local law enforcement and emergency services.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have not yet released the name of the wrong-way driver. They are working with the State Highway Patrol to determine the cause of the crash and any contributing factors.
