Orange County authorities have increased the reward to $5,000 for information leading to the apprehension of a suspect in the assault of a nonagenarian resident at the HarborChase of Dr. Phillips senior living community. According to ClickOrlando, the attack, which took place on April 29, involved a male intruder who was captured on surveillance footage entering the facility wearing a dark-colored hoodie.
The assailant was said to have knocked down the 90-year-old woman and attempted to smother her, yet she did not sustain serious injuries. In the wake of the incident, a friend of the victim disclosed to WESH that the attack generated significant concern, emphasizing that "no one should fear being harmed in their own home, especially our seniors." The increase in the reward, from an initial $1,000, reflects the seriousness with which the Orange County Sheriff's Office is approaching the case.
Following the attack, HarborChase released a statement detailing the swift response and measures meant to ensure resident safety, including security cameras, locked doors, and a 24/7 staff presence. "It is the mission of HarborChase to serve and care for seniors and their families with dignity, respect, and compassion," the community stated, noting their commitment to maintaining a secure environment for residents and associates alike. ClickOrlando shared additional information regarding the facility’s security measures and the incident.
