Car accidents are no walk in the park, but the Oregon DMV is rolling out a new feature that should make dealing with the aftermath more bearable. According to the latest bulletin from the Oregon DMV, drivers now have the option to report collisions online through DMV2U.oregon.gov. This web service lets you file a report anytime, anywhere, provided you have a solid internet connection.
DMV Administrator Amy Joyce emphasized the move toward convenient, self-service options. "The new online option for the Oregon Traffic Collision and Insurance Report is part of DMV’s expanding menu of online services that are available 24/7 at DMV2U," Joyce said in an announcement, as per the Oregon Department of Transportation. Completing reports online means no more mailing, faxing, or in-person drop-offs, plus users can save their progress on a report and return to it later.
Oregon law requires that drivers file a collision report with the DMV within 72 hours if they meet an array of unfortunate conditions, including injuries, death, or significant property damage. With crashes being all too common—ODOT’s Crash Analysis & Reporting Unit logged 46,762 reportable crashes in 2023—the new system is expected to streamline a daunting process for the public and the DMV staff who process around 200,000 reports annually.
