Oshkosh resident David E. Dejanovich, 52, has been indicted on federal charges for allegedly receiving obscene visual depictions of child sexual abuse and possessing child pornography, as announced by Richard G. Frohling, the Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Dejanovich, a registered sex offender, was hit with a five-count indictment that includes violations that could lock him away for a mandatory minimum of 15 years, with the potential for up to 40 years in prison.
As stated by the U.S. Department of Justice, the charges against Dejanovich stem from incidents in April 2024 and his indictment is a part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to fight against child sexual exploitation, the project which was established in 2006, is aimed at using collaboration among federal, state, and local entities to prosecute those accused of crimes against children and to assist victims. Dejanovich's past as a sex offender intensifies his legal jeopardy, with a possible additional sentence of 10 years mandatory imprisonment if he's convicted as charged, this ongoing battle against such crimes underscores a societal need to protect the most vulnerable from a darkness that preys often in secret and silence.
The investigation was led by the Oshkosh Police Department with help from the United States Office of Probation and Parole in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and the case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel R. Humble. Each count against Dejanovich could also result in a fine of up to $250,000, and regardless of the prison term, he will be required to continue registering as a sexual offender under state and federal laws.
