An overturned tractor-trailer earlier today disrupted traffic near the Durham–Chatham County line, prompting closures in both directions of N.C. Highway 751. The incident, reported to have occurred around 3:30 a.m. near O'Kelley Chapel Road, was confirmed by the N.C. State Highway Patrol. According to CBS 17, the driver of the tractor-trailer veered off the roadway and then overcorrected, causing the truck to overturn.
According to troopers, the driver sustained minor injuries in a mishap. Moreover, there was a slight spill of material from the crash, but nothing that was considered hazardous, as officials from the NCSHP informed CBS 17.
Recovery efforts involved a tow truck which was working to upright the vehicle as captured by Sky 5 footage around 7:15 a.m., WRAL crews witnessed upon their arrival.
The highway, which serves as a busy corridor for commuters, remained closed for multiple hours, as crews worked to clear the scene and reopen the thoroughfare to traffic. Eventually, normalcy resumed as the road was reopened, and travel through the area was no longer impacted by the morning's events.
Chopper 11 also flew over the scene of the accident, corroborating that the truck did indeed block both lanes of the highway during the time of the incident. As per ABC 11, this disruption occurred around 5:50 a.m., with the road closure extending for several hours onwards.
