An incident of domestic violence escalated to a standoff in Oxnard, ending with the apprehension of Alejandro Salas Jr., age 26, the Oxnard Police Department reported. According to a news release, on Friday evening, officers responded to a potentially dangerous situation at a residence on the 900 block of East Channel Islands Boulevard after Salas was involved in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend.
The dispute reportedly turned violent when Salas assaulted the 29-year-old woman and threatened her life. The woman, who has not been named, was compelled to seek medical attention, and during this time, she was made to contact Salas through FaceTime, ensuring that she was not communicating with the authorities. The suspect remained in the home with the couple's three-month-old child, creating a tense scenario that demanded tactical intervention.
Oxnard's SWAT team was dispatched to manage the situation, leading to successful negotiations that coaxed Salas to exit the home without the infant. The suspect was arrested while in possession of a firearm. Salas, who is a convicted felon, was consequently booked into Ventura County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including "kidnapping, domestic battery causing injury, assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats, child endangerment, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition."
The Oxnard Police Department has made a public call for additional information on this case or other illicit activities, stressing that community members can report confidentially by contacting the department directly or anonymously through Ventura County Crime Stoppers. In a statement, Sgt. Jose Diaz encouraged community engagement, saying, "Anyone with information regarding this case or other criminal activity is encouraged to contact the Oxnard Police Department at (805) 385-7600, or online via the Oxnard Police Department’s website," and for anonymous tips, "by calling the Ventura County Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477."
