
A tragic incident occurred last night on U.S. 1 in Jacksonville, as a 45-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle. The Florida Highway Patrol provided details that the collision happened just before midnight when a northbound 2019 Volkswagen Jetta hit the pedestrian who was crossing at the intersection of U.S. 1 (Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway) and Fairfax Street. News4JAX reported that after the impact, the woman was knocked back onto the sidewalk.
The driver of the Jetta, identified as a 25-year-old man from Jacksonville, remained at the scene and called emergency services for assistance. Despite the severity of the accident, he was reportedly not injured. However, the efforts to assist were unable to prevent the gravely inevitable outcome. First Coast News noted that the driver stopped immediately after the collision and awaited authorities' arrival.
Officials have not yet revealed the identity of the woman who tragically lost her life in this incident. Traffic through the area was affected for several hours as the Florida Highway Patrol conducted their initial investigation into the cause of the accident.
