With the Memorial Day weekend upon us, Philadelphia's Parks & Rec is launching its summer cooling off programs just in time. In a news release, the department announced that its network of over 70 water play areas, known variously as spraygrounds, splash pads, or spray parks, are ready to beat the heat for Philly residents.
These amusement areas, which include everything ranging from basic sprinklers to fully-equipped splash pads, will commence operation from Memorial Day through Labor Day. They are designed to be safe, family-oriented, and accessible to all at no cost. According to the City of Philadelphia, nearly 60 sites with timer-controlled spraygrounds will activate this weekend (May 24–25).
As per the schedule outlined by the Parks & Rec Department, by Friday, May 30, all of the water play areas will be operational, ensuring a citywide cool-down option just in time for hotter days. For the early part of the summer season (May 30 – June 15), the facilities will only open from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekdays, with limited or unavailable hours on the weekends.
