Residents of Plano are reminded that registration of household pets is a legal requirement under the Texas State Rabies Control Act. This mandate applies to dogs, cats, and ferrets that have received their rabies vaccinations.
The City of Plano requires that all such animals be registered once officially vaccinated. Detailed instructions, including eligibility and documentation requirements, are available on the City of Plano’s official website.
To register a pet, owners may apply online through PetData.com, visit Plano Animal Services in person, or send in a mail-in form. All applications must include a copy of the pet’s current rabies vaccination certificate. This document must be printed on the attending veterinarian’s letterhead and must indicate the date of vaccination. Additionally, applicants should include a description of the pet, noting breed, gender, and spay/neuter status, along with a check made payable to the City of Plano.
While registration is required by law, it also serves a practical benefit: properly registered pets are more likely to be reunited with their owners if lost. Moreover, compliance helps local authorities maintain a healthy community by minimizing the risk of rabies transmission.
For additional information regarding fees, procedures, or documentation, residents are encouraged to contact Plano Animal Services by phone or email.
