Summer is often synonymous with outdoor adventures, and the City of Plymouth is ready to make the season inclusive and memorable for people of all abilities. This year, the Plymouth Community Center will host an assortment of adaptive and inclusive programs ranging from arts to sports, all tailored to cater to a diverse group of participants.
Interested individuals need to pre-register, and all the details are up for grabs on the city's website. There's a mix of arts, crafts, nature, music, and sports programs designed for various age brackets. A nature-based arts and crafts camp, fittingly dubbed Grounded Arts & Crafts, invites kids and adults to connect with the environment through creativity, and it's not the only program bringing folks closer to Mother Nature.
Not to be missed is the "I Got the Music in Me" camp, orchestrated by board-certified music therapists, where the beats of music blend with the joy of creation. It's a hands-on, melody-infused event suitable for ages 5 through 9, with sessions from July 28 to August 1. For those more persuaded by the calming effect of water, private adaptive swim lessons are making a splash for individuals five years or older facing challenges such as autism, anxiety, or physical disabilities.
For the more athletically inclined, the local government joins forces with the Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute to present adaptive sports camps in basketball, softball, and tennis. Kids aged 5 to 17 can register to join the action with no prior experience necessary, leaving the door wide open for newcomers to join the community sports scene. The basketball camp bounces into action on July 25, just one example of the many sessions specially designed to promote inclusive play. Moreover, Adaptive gymnastics classes for ambitious young movers between the ages of 5 and 20 will be offered at Wayzata High School.
Each camp emphasizes mindfulness and therapeutic benefits, whether through bubble-themed activities in the Bubbles & Fidgets camp or fostering friendships in the Forest Friends program. This expansion of community programming underscores Plymouth’s commitment to creating spaces where everyone can enjoy the season's offerings.
