
The Metropolitan Police Department has confirmed the arrest of a suspect following a shooting incident in the Columbia Heights neighborhood this past weekend. In a late-night act of violence that left an adult male with serious injuries, a quick response by local police led to a prompt apprehension and a critical step towards justice.
According to the official MPD news release, the shooting took place last Saturday, around 11:46 p.m. near the 1300 block of Columbia Road, Northwest, officers were dispatched to an alley following reports of gunshots, following which they found the victim inside a nearby residence and the suspect was caught in the area soon after the event. DC Fire and EMS units responded to the call, ensuring the victim received immediate medical attention and transport to a hospital for his injuries.
Police have identified the suspect as 21-year-old Kyiel Kearny from Southeast, DC, now charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun). The case remains active as investigators continue to piece together the events that led to the shooting.
