Portland police are currently investigating a shooting incident that involved a security officer near a preschool in Southwest Portland. As reported by the Portland Police Bureau, the event took place yesterday, and all children at the preschool were confirmed safe following the incident.
Authorities responded to the scene at around 11:50 a.m. in the 6600 block of Southwest Capitol Highway. Upon arrival, they discovered an injured adult male in the parking lot who was later taken to the hospital. The security officer connected with the shooting is employed by the preschool and was present when officers arrived, now cooperating with the police investigation. No suspects are actively being sought, and there is no perceived continued threat to community safety.
This case does not indicate that the shooting occurred on school property, and parents were promptly informed of the situation with arrangements made for the safe pickup of their children. The Portland Police Bureau has temporarily closed Southwest Vermont Street between Southwest Capitol Highway and Southwest 24th Avenue for investigation purposes.
