Port Authority Police are currently investigating an attempted robbery that occurred on a Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) bus in the South Side area. According to a PRT spokesperson, the incident happened at around 9 p.m. near the intersection of Carson and 26th streets, as reported by WPXI.
The attempted robbery involved "a few juveniles" who attempted to rob an elderly man while on the bus. In the process of the attempted crime, one juvenile reportedly dropped a handgun onto the bus floor, which has yet to be confirmed as loaded. After the incident, the group of juveniles quickly fled the scene before police could apprehend them. According to reports from CBS News Pittsburgh, the victim managed to pick up the gun and safely hold it until officers arrived, showcasing a presence of mind despite the danger.
The PRT spokesperson reassured the public that, fortunately, no injuries were sustained during the attempted robbery. The authorities are leveraging surveillance footage and bus records to try to identify the suspects responsible for this incident.
