The Portland Police Bureau is requesting assistance from the public in the identification of a suspect involved in a brutal assault that took place in the early hours of April 24, according to their recent release. Central Precinct officers arrived at the scene near West Burnside Street and Northwest Broadway around 12:10 a.m., following reports of a disturbance.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered an adult female suffering from head and leg injuries. Before being taken to the hospital, the victim recounted a harrowing experience of being approached by an unknown assailant while walking down the street, who then proceeded to physically assault her. Offering a description to the police, the woman detailed a male suspect who punched, kicked, and stomped on her after she fell to the ground, adding a racially charged insult to injury.
The male suspect wanted in connection with this case is described as a Black male, about 200 lbs., and in the 30-40 age bracket. The Portland Police Bureau has released photos of the suspect and is urging anyone with information to come forward. The assault, particularly with its overtones of racial animosity, has alarmed the community and heightened the urgency to apprehend the individual responsible.
Individuals with any knowledge that may lead to the identification or apprehension of the suspect are encouraged to reach out to the PPB. The authorities are hopeful that the dissemination of the photos may jog the memory of community members who might have seen this person around the time of the attack or at other times. Along with the photos, the suspect’s description—a Black male, approximately 30-40 years old and weighing about 200 lbs—is being widely circulated in public spaces and online forums. The Police ask that anyone with information relating to the suspect contact their department immediately.
