As part of the annual observance of World Trade Week, President Donald Trump recently emphasized his administration's focus on recalibrating trade policies to prioritize American interests. In a proclamation, Trump highlighted measures aimed at fostering balanced and reciprocal trade relationships and voiced support for American workers who he believes have previously been sidelined due to globalization. "For far too long, globalist elites sold out the American worker and let other countries unfairly take our factories, our jobs, and our dreams. Those days are over," the President stated in a proclamation issued by the White House.
The President underscored his dedication to creating an environment more conducive to domestic job creation and industrial strengthening. He noted that his administration has been proactive in reversing the trend of offshoring, by enacting tariffs and other trade measures. "My Administration is delivering that future," Trump said, referring to a vision he articulated while campaigning for office. "Since assuming office, I have taken action to provide a better life for all Americans and especially the millions of Americans left by the wayside as jobs were shipped overseas," as per the White House.
The White House proclamation also detailed trade policy moves intended to curb the import of fentanyl and to promote American competitiveness abroad. It lauded the introduction of new trade agreements, like the noted United States-United Kingdom trade deal, that seek to create opportunities for American businesses internationally. The President pledged to combat unfair trade practices that affect a wide swath of the American populace, from "farmers and fishermen to entrepreneurs and everyone in between," according to the White House.
Trump expressed a firm resolve to perpetuate an America-first strategy throughout trade negotiations and policy developments. "As President, I will always place the interests of America first," he asserted. "Together, we will build a new Golden Age for America with strong economic growth and America First trade policies that protect our workers, strengthen our industries, and unlock the American Dream for every citizen." Last Sunday through yesterday were designated as World Trade Week, inviting celebration of American trade's contributions under Trump's directive, as detailed by the White House.
