This 18.5-acre adventure playground is marking a significant moment in the history of the locale, as it transforms the former site of North Carolina's first mental health facility into a haven for play, wellness, and community connection, according to the City of Raleigh's official announcement.
It's not just North Carolina locals who are in for a treat. The Gipson Play Plaza stakes its claim as the largest of its kind in the Southeastern United States. The playground is replete with distinctive features that reflect the diverse natural landscapes of the region, offering climbing towers, boulders, and water play areas suitable for all ages, as per the City of Raleigh's statement. Furthermore, amenities like picnic lawns, grills, a civic plaza, and a new market enhance the plaza's allure for a variety of outdoor activities.

A 2022 Parks Bond, approved by a strong majority of over 73% of voters, allotted $37 million to the project.
