The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), in coordination with the National Weather Service, has issued a Red Flag Warning from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. yesteday for several northwestern counties, including Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Sawyer, and Washburn. The warning is due to a combination of high temperatures, strong winds, and dry conditions caused by limited rainfall, which increase the risk of wildfires.
As a precaution, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has suspended all burning under DNR-issued permits. This follows a recent surge in wildfire activity, with over 130 incidents reported in the past week. On the previous day, two significant fires—the Warthog Fire in Juneau County and the Swiss Complex Fire in Burnett County—burned 130 and 60 acres, respectively. These fires led to evacuations and the loss of at least one structure before being contained.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is urging the public to avoid activities that could start fires, such as lighting campfires, discarding cigarettes, or using equipment that might produce sparks.
Emergency response teams remain on high alert, and the Wisconsin Army National Guard’s Blackhawk helicopters are ready to assist if needed. Current conditions across the state remain dry and fire-prone, and officials continue to coordinate resources to manage and contain any new outbreaks. Residents and visitors are asked to remain cautious until conditions improve.
