The office of Rep. Jamila Taylor (D–Federal Way) announced that the congresswoman suffered a stroke on Tuesday. Currently in stable condition, Taylor is being treated in the ICU, focusing on her recovery, as reported by her legislative office.
While Taylor cannot fulfill her legislative duties, colleagues and constituents alike have shown her immense support. Per the House Democrats, the representative's office expressed gratitude for "the outpouring of support from her friends, neighbors, and legislative community." However, her care team has requested that Taylor not be disturbed with personal visits or floral arrangements during her time of healing.
Health issues like strokes serve as a sobering reminder of the human fragility our public servants are not immune to, even as they carry forth the weight of public office. It's been made clear that Jamila Taylor's health takes precedence over all else, and she will stay off the political stage until her medical team determines she's ready to return.
