Following a reported assault in Bayfront Park, authorities arrested a 27-year-old Richmond man. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday at around 2:00 PM, involved two individuals who were walking their dog and were subsequently attacked by the suspect, now identified as Miguel Patino. The victims needed medical assistance, a testament to the gravity of the altercation, which prompted a prompt response from law enforcement officials.
Both the nature of the assault and the quick investigative work that led to Patino's arrest shed light on a disturbing act of violence within our local parks, Pinole Police Officers were able to piece together clues that pointed to Patino, who was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility facing several charges that include aggravated battery, assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm; and elder/dependent adult abuse, thus demonstrating a callous disregard for the wellbeing of community members.
With Miguel Patino now awaiting court proceedings, the discussion about park safety and protecting our city's more vulnerable populations is likely to be at the forefront of community discourse, and rightly so. The charges against Patino involve serious violations, including Penal Code 243(d) for aggravated battery, Penal Code 245(a)(1) for assault with a deadly weapon, and Penal Code 368(b)(1) which particularly highlights crimes against elder or dependent adults, as noted by the Pinole Police Department.
