Five individuals from Sacramento found themselves on the wrong side of justice after Cotati Police thwarted what appeared to be a premeditated burglary at a local cannabis dispensary. According to a social media post by the Cotati Police Department, the arrest occurred last Wednesday when an officer encountered a suspicious vehicle in the early morning hours.
The vehicle, which had its license plates obscured and straddled two spaces in the Lowe's parking lot on Redwood Drive, caught the attention of the patrolling officer. Upon engaging with the occupants, the officer discerned incriminating items such as masks, gloves, and burglary tools scattered on the truck's floorboard. This prompted an investigation that revealed the group's intention to target the nearby dispensary.
The coordinated efforts of local law enforcement agencies, including the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety and the Sonoma State Police Department, led to the detainment and subsequent charging of the suspects. Four adults were booked into jail for counts including felony conspiracy to commit a crime and felony attempted burglary, among other charges. A juvenile was processed separately, facing analogous accusations.
Not only were the suspects caught red-handed with tools of illicit entry, but a connection to the crime scene was further solidified by surveillance footage from the dispensary. "The Dispensary was contacted and it was reported that the subjects were seen on surveillance and audio picked up them talking about how to get inside the business," detailed the Cotati Police Department's announcement.
