Big health care news for Saint Louis County as it lands a solid win for its public health capabilities. According to an announcement reported by Saint Louis County, the Saint Louis County Department of Public Health has been designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike (FQHC-LAL) by the Health Resources and Services Administration, becoming the first of its kind in Missouri. Saint Louis County Executive Sam Page expressed his excitement about the milestone, which paves the way for enhanced health care access and funding.
With this new FQHC Look-Alike status, Saint Louis County stands to gain an annual increase of $6 million in revenue, the implications of which are substantial: greater financial capacity to bolster patient care, enhanced Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements; the 340B Federal Drug Pricing Program that could drastically reduce medication costs, and access to recruitment support through the National Health Service Corps.
"This significant milestone will allow Saint Louis County to generate an additional $6 million in annual revenue for the department and enable us to improve our patient care,” said Dr. Page in a statement, crediting Dr. Kanika Cunningham, Derrick Melton, and the entire team for their relentless work that led to this achievement—indeed, a historic day for the county. The goal is clear: bolstering care while addressing health disparities in vulnerable communities, as per Saint Louis County.
The implications of this designation are far-reaching, says Dr. Cunningham, Director of the Department of Public Health, in a statement obtained by Saint Louis County, "This is a major victory for the Saint Louis County Department of Public Health and the communities we serve,” said Dr. Cunningham.
