The city of Sammamish has recently garnered recognition for its strategic urban planning. In acknowledgment of the efforts taken to construct a more livable and equitable community, the city's 2024 Comprehensive Plan was bestowed with the "Liveable Communities Award" by Futurewise, an organization advocating for the development of healthy and opportunity-rich communities throughout Washington state.
As reported by the city's official news release, the comprehensive plan which aimed to reshape the cityscape received unanimous support from the city council, with a 7-0 vote. The plan, noted for its focus on inclusivity and accessibility, was crafted through an extensive process that sought to actively engage and incorporate the voice of the community. This plan was not just a document to quietly archive but a blueprint designed to dynamically shape the city's evolution.
During the award ceremony, key figures such as Mayor Karen Howe and Deputy Mayor Amy Lam were present to accept the prestigious award.
