In celebration of National Pet Week, the San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) together with the San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) are getting set to honor our furry friends with a variety of events and adoption specials. From May 5 through May 10, pet lovers across the city will have the opportunity to engage in pet-centric activities and learn about responsible pet ownership. According to a San Antonio government news release, activities are scheduled at different library locations citywide, aiming to educate and inspire the city residents.
These events include craft activities like creating a Pet Go-Bag, workshops on homemade pet food, and dog behavior lessons. Interestingly enough, one such event is the "DSL: Dog as a second language" session planned for May 6, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Johnston Branch Library, focusing on basic canine behavior and bite prevention—important for both long-time pet owners and those looking to quickly and responsibly become one. All these events are free, with the SAPL website providing necessary pre-registration details.
The public libraries, cornerstones of knowledge and community in San Antonio, are offering a creative blend of events throughout National Pet Week. Ranging from the artsy, wherein residents can craft a Pet Go-Bag at locations such as Great Northwest Branch Library and Bazan Branch Library, to the culinary with "Homemade Pet Food Made Easy" sessions available at branches including Potranco and McCreless, there's something to capture the interest of every pet enthusiast. Alongside these engaging learning opportunities, SAACS has announced a special adoption fee of just $25 during the week, in collaboration with the BISSELL Pet Foundation's 'Empty The Shelters' initiative.
