Aspiring cops and enthusiasts alike have a shot at showing off their skills in San Antonio later this month. The San Antonio Police Department Recruits are rolling out a challenge that's equal parts community outreach and talent scout mission. The 2025 SAPD SWAT Challenge, set for May 31 at the Police Training Academy, is touted as a free and family-friendly affair encouraging teams of four to best the swift and strategic maneuvers of the city's finest SWAT members.

Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., and the main event starts at 9:30 a.m. Media access is available from 9:30 to 11 a.m. It will take place at the San Antonio Police Training Academy, located at 12200 SE Loop 410 in San Antonio, and is open to anyone who wants to attend or watch.

According to a news release from the San Antonio Police Department, the SWAT Challenge was created in response to strong interest from people wanting to join the SWAT team—often seen as heroes in dangerous situations and tactical gear. The event serves two purposes: to help "recruit qualified candidates" and to "engage with our community" in a more relaxed setting. “This event places our SWAT Team front and center with our community and interested applicants in a non-police situation,” the department said. Signing up is easy—just visit the SAPD Careers website to register.
