Over the weekend, an attempt at copper theft in San Jose was foiled thanks to prompt police intervention. Last Saturday, local officers encountered a scene straight out of a heist movie, but this was very much a reality on the streets of our city.
The San Jose Police Department reported that patrol officers spotted an adult male suspect amidst a hands-on copper heist near San Felipe Rd and Meadowlands Ln. The suspect was found concealed in the brush after having cut down overhead phone lines, fragmenting them into pieces to be spirited away in plastic bags.

Tools of the trade were laid bare for the officers to find: a bag stuffed with heavy-duty wire cutters and an ample supply of empty bags, seemingly for the haul that never was. Down the same road, his presumed accomplice, a female suspect, was discovered waiting in a vehicle seemingly primed for getaway duty, with a payload of the illicitly obtained metal.
They were promptly arrested, facing stern charges including grand theft, conspiracy, and possession of burglary tools. Furthermore, the female suspect was caught with what appeared to be methamphetamine.
