The search for 79-year-old Margaret "Elaine" McKinley, who has been missing since May 1 after setting out on a hike in the Windy Hill Open Space Preserve, has now transitioned into a "Limited Continuous Search" phase. According to a recent Hoodline article, the multi-county pursuit to locate the Redwood City senior, diagnosed with dementia, has been ongoing for over two weeks. McKinley was last spotted wearing a red jacket and black pants on the Lost Trail.

McKinley remains undiscovered despite nearing 100 volunteers combing through the Windy Hill Open Space Preserve over the weekend and an exhaustive search that has mobilized drones, horses, K-9 units, planes, and even off-road motorcycles. These search parties examined dense terrains, sometimes plagued with poison oak, as reported by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. With 25 trail cameras and residents' doorbell footage, however, they still review any potential clues that may indicate her whereabouts.

Since McKinley vanished, more than 600 specialized search and rescue volunteers, alongside partner agencies, have covered an estimated 3,000 miles spanning from Marin to Yolo counties. The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office expressed gratitude to the volunteers who tirelessly continue looking for Elaine across the region's challenging environments.
