
Early Tuesday morning, a dramatic scene unfolded in Pioneer Square, where Seattle Fire Department firefighters were forced to intervene in a shooting. According to the Seattle Police Department Blotter, firefighters who were initially responding to an unrelated pepper spray incident witnessed a 26-year-old man shoot another man in the chest on the 100 block of South Washington Street.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:33 a.m., with on-scene SFD personnel quick to react after the shooting took place. In a sudden turn of events, the suspect began to fight with the firefighters, who managed to subdue and hold him down until police could safely arrive to take custody. These details were provided in the statement made by the Seattle Police Department Blotter. The victim, a 44-year-old man, was treated for his injuries at the scene before being transported in serious condition to Harborview Medical Center.
Police subsequently took the suspect into custody without further incident. It was later determined by investigating officers that the suspect and victim had been involved in a prior altercation, leading up to the tragic shooting. The case has now been passed to the Gun Violence Reduction Unit, which is in charge of leading the investigation, as per the Seattle Police Department. The suspect, following the incident, was booked into King County jail on suspicion of assault.
