Early Tuesday morning, Seattle Fire Department medics were thrust into an unexpected confrontation when a shooting unfolded before their eyes. As they treated a person affected by pepper spray in Pioneer Square, they witnessed a man being shot in the chest at the 100 block of South Washington Street. A 26-year-old suspect was quickly subdued by the medics and held until police arrived on the scene, a report at 12:33 a.m. informed dispatch.
The suspect engaged in a tussle with the medics post-shooting but was restrained until officers took him into custody, as stated in a Seattle Police Department Blotter post. Following the arrest, medics tended to a 44-year-old gunshot victim at the scene before rushing him to Harborview Medical Center, where he was reported to be in serious condition.
Investigations by the police revealed an altercation between the suspect and the victim just before the unfortunate event. The Gun Violence Reduction Unit has since taken the helm of the unfolding investigation.
