That same day, authorities reported the theft of a handgun from a vehicle on Chippewa Street, with the case still under investigation. A group involved in theft at a local Walmart was intercepted by police, resulting in the arrest of three adults and custody of one juvenile, "a handgun with a 30-round magazine was seized from an adult that chose to resist arrest", but officers managed to subdue him without any harm, as reported by the Shrewsbury Police Department.
Further on May 14, an individual behaving aggressively and punching the air near Shrewsbury Avenue and Weil Avenue was detained for an outstanding felony warrant from Georgia. Upon arrest, the man was in possession of marijuana and a white substance, later admitting to using methamphetamine to combat the cold. "He explained that he did in fact consume methamphetamines because he 'was cold'", the report notes. He now awaits extradition to Georgia, facing potential charges by the Saint Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
On May 17, another incident was detailed where an adult female, apprehended on allegations of shoplifting at Walmart, confessed to stealing more than $140 worth of alcohol and pet supplies to "sell to the crackheads on the street", clearly illustrating the intersection of poverty, addiction, and crime in the community.
