The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival has been extended into early May, giving visitors more time to enjoy the blooming tulips. Organizers announced the extension on Facebook on Tuesday, as reported by FOX13 Seattle.
Three of the five participating farms—Tulip Town, Tulip Valley Farms, and Garden Rosalyn—will remain open through Sunday. Tulip Town owner Rachael Sparwasser said, "We prep all year for this season, so any chance we get to extend it is something we truly love. We couldn’t resist letting spring linger just a bit longer," in a My Bellingham Now report.
The festival extension also supports the local economy. With concerns about reduced Canadian border traffic, the event remains important for Skagit County, generating about $65 million in revenue last year, according to KOMO News.
With the extension, visitors have one final weekend to see the tulips. A festival representative told KOMO News, "There's still one full weekend that people can come out and enjoy the tulips." The six-acre fields feature international varieties from over 50 states and 35 countries.
