Outdoor enthusiasts looking to revel in the tranquility of Louisiana's Sherburne Wildlife Management Area will have to adjust their plans, as the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has announced, via a recent notice, the temporary closure of South Farm within the Sherburne WMA due to flooding. South Farm, situated near the Ramah exit on I-10, is currently inaccessible, with flood water having surged over the trails in this part of the Iberville Parish.

The deluge in the Atchafalaya Basin is to blame for the high waters, which have led to the submergence of not just trails but also potential habitats for a variety of game species such as deer, squirrels, and waterfowl, as reported by the LDWF. The site, normally humming with the footsteps of hunters and the whispers of nature, now waits in silence until the waters recede. Following this, the LDWF will inspect, repair, and ultimately reopen the affected passageways. The closure affects only South Farm; the remainder of the Sherburne WMA remains open for business.

Despite the current impediment, the LDWF reminds all visitors that, when South Farm's gates do swing open again, an appropriate WMA Access Permit or an equivalent hunting/fishing license is required for entry.
