Authorities are delving into the details of a homicide that transpired within the confines of the DC Jail. The Metropolitan Police Department affirmed that an adult male, later identified as 29-year-old Southeast DC resident Carlos Shelley, was the victim of a fatal stabbing incident on Monday afternoon.
According to information released by the Metropolitan Police Department, the event occurred around 2:30 p.m. on May 1, 2025. It has been reported that officers from the First District were swiftly called to respond to the Central Detention Facility in the 1900 block of D Street, Southeast. The officers, upon their arrival, discovered Shelley unconscious and exhibiting no signs of life, with wounds indicative of a stabbing.
Emergency services, including DC Fire and EMS, promptly arrived on the scene but could only confirm Shelley’s death after he was found unresponsive and without a pulse. Subsequently, the MPD’s Homicide Branch has taken the lead in the investigation, making a determined effort to quickly unravel the circumstances of the incident.
As the investigation pushes forward, the Metropolitan Police Department has put forth a reward of up to $25,000, aiming to incentivize anyone who might come forward with information that could conclusively lead to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this act. This was established as part of their ongoing campaign to address homicide cases urgently and effectively within the district.
