Boaters in St. Johns County have a reason to cheer as two popular boat ramps, Butler West and Vilano Landing, are opening their gates to the public once again today. Both sites have been under wraps for different reasons – Butler West underwent an improvement project, while Vilano Landing needed some time off for dredging operations.
In an effort to provide enhanced facilities, the Butler West Boat Ramp has completed a series of improvements. Residents are encouraged "to enjoy safe and responsible boating" as the warm days steadily advance, as stated in a press release from St. Johns County. This comes aptly timed with National Safe Boating Week, an annual event that aims to promote better, safer boating practices.
The reopened Vilano Landing Boat Ramp will also welcome boaters starting this morning. This area was temporarily closed off to give way to dredging activities intended to maintain the navigational quality of the waterway. Both projects signal the county's investment in not only the maintenance but also the enhancement of their maritime facilities.
With summer on the horizon, they hope to see the ramps used "for regular use moving forward." St. Johns County seems to understand the way quickly to get back on the water is as important to their residents as the destination they're sailing towards.
