In a recent crackdown on narcotics in St. Johns County, detectives have put a stop to the allegedly illicit activities of one Jermaine Carter. On April 16, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office announced via a Facebook post that their Special Investigations Unit, executed a search warrant at Carter's residence as part of a narcotics sales investigation.
The search revealed a collection of contraband, including three firearms, 1.28 ounces of suspected cocaine, and 6.7 ounces of a suspected cocaine/cut mix — materials suggesting the operation of a drug trafficking outfit. The discovery also included drug paraphernalia, which the sheriff's office believes to be consistent with trafficking. Complicating matters further, Carter, 42, is no stranger to law enforcement, he has a history of felony convictions for cocaine sales and was under felony probation at the time of his arrest.
In a multipronged charge, authorities arrested Carter on allegations of violation of probation, armed trafficking of cocaine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and maintaining a drug dwelling. These charges signal a tight grip on narcotics distribution by local law enforcement and a zero-tolerance stance towards repeat offenders in the community.
While being already under the watchful eye of law enforcement for prior offenses, his alleged swift re-engagement with criminal activities indicates deeper layers to the challenge facing our justice system.
