The City of St. Louis is shifting its roll cart trash collection schedule to accommodate the upcoming Memorial Day holiday. The temporary change will affect residents who usually have their waste and recyclable materials picked up early in the week, according to an announcement on the city's website.

On the occasion of Memorial Day, which falls on May 26, those residents who typically have their garbage collected on Mondays will need to hold onto their roll carts a day longer. As per the City of St. Louis Refuse Division, solid waste usually picked up on Monday and Thursday will now be collected on Tuesday, May 27, and recyclables will be collected on Thursday, May 29.

For those residents whose trash is collected on Tuesdays, the city has stated that waste will be picked up on Wednesday, May 28, instead, and their recyclables will be collected as usual on Friday, May 30. Slight adjustments like these ensure that all residents will still receive both waste and recycling services for the week, despite the holiday disruption.

Moving beyond the holiday, normal yard waste collection won't be resuming until the following week, precisely on June 4. Residents looking to dispose of their yard clippings will have to wait until after the holiday weekend, as indicated by the city's announcement. This pause in service, aimed to give workers time off, ensures that our respect for the sacrifices made by military personnel transcends the mere act of remembrance, shaping our municipal services around this solemn holiday.
