
A St. Louis man, recently completing a federal sentence, has been charged with the 2021 murder of Alvatyne Thomas, the mother of his child. On the evening of December 27, 2021, St. Louis Metropolitan Police discovered Thomas deceased at her residence in the Dutchtown neighborhood, with a plastic bag secured around her head and bleach poured over her body, according to FOX 2 Now.
34-year-old Karl D. Mayberry II stands accused of first-degree murder following the revelation of his Google search history and incriminating texts. The KSDK reported that Mayberry's coworkers stated his absence for several hours on the day of the murder, and his return in a different set of clothes, visibly upset. Investigation of Mayberry's digital footprint found alarming searches such as "first degree murder defenses" and queries about hearsay's use in murder cases in Missouri.
Thomas was found in her South City home with a gunshot wound in her back, defensive wounds on her hand, and other signs of a violent struggle, said the St. Louis police. In interviews with Thomas' family members, disclosed an allegedly abusive relationship between her and Mayberry, adding a layer of premeditated context to the murder, as reported by First Alert 4.
Mayberry, now facing charges including a weapons charge for being a felon in possession of a gun, is being held without bond at the St. Louis City Justice Center.
