St. Louis drivers should prepare for a week of detours and alternate routes. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is beginning a series of roadworks that will impact several highways and local roads throughout the city and county. Starting Monday, entrance and exit ramps at the intersection of Route D (Page Avenue) and Route 67 (Lindbergh Boulevard) will be closed as crews work to replace the Route D bridges over Route 67, MoDOT announced. These closures are expected to remain in place through the end of 2026, keeping all loop ramps to Route D inaccessible. Detours will be implemented, with signage in place to help maintain traffic flow on both routes.
A number of ongoing closures continue to affect St. Louis City and County, as well as Jefferson and Franklin counties. Among these closures, the Cherokee entrance ramp to southbound I-55 will remain closed through the end of this year, requiring drivers to seek alternative routes. Traffic on I-55 will also experience delays due to various lane closures from I-44 to Weber, as well as at multiple points in between. The ramp from southbound Route 67 to southbound I-55 will be closed through September. MoDOT states that all work is weather permitting and subject to change, and real-time traffic and roadway weather conditions can be monitored on their dedicated travel and traffic websites.
Day-to-day road closure updates offer a detailed look for those planning their daily commutes. For example, today, there will be a lane closure on several key thoroughfares, including one southbound lane on I-55 between Arsenal and 4500 Broadway, from the evening hours into the early morning. In St. Louis County, Route 21 will experience both northbound and southbound closures in selected stretches during the daytime. St. Charles and Franklin counties will also be impacted, with lane closures on I-64 and Route 50, among others, affecting travel in and around the region.
While these disruptions prove a test to the patience of daily commuters, the efforts are in service of maintaining and improving essential infrastructure. With bridges needing replacement and roadways demanding regular upkeep, MoDOT's schedule reflects a commitment to long-term mobility, even if it does so with the stir of the immediate inconveniences.
