St. Louis Park is gearing up for its annual spring clean-up, and you're invited to declutter and dispose of your bulky items responsibly. The event, set for May 17 from 8 am to noon at the Municipal Service Center on 7305 Oxford St., offers residents the opportunity to unload a range of materials, from unwanted furniture to various electronics.
Before arriving, residents should be aware of the requirements: proof of residency is a must, checks, credit/debit cards, or exact cash will be accepted for payment, and for the sake of safety and emissions reduction, vehicles must be turned off while unloading. It is also important to note, the event queue closes at noon so make sure to get in line on time and be prepared to unload your items, though limited assistance is available for those who need it and for safety reasons, walking or biking materials into the event is prohibited according to the City of St. Louis Park announcement.
Chargeable items include bulky trash like unusable furniture, with fees based on the size of the load, and appliances which cost $15 each; while certain electronics have varied prices, recycling desktop towers, laptops, and various mobile devices will be free, ensuring these items don't end up in landfills, scrap metal from grills to lawnmowers can be dropped off sans charge if fluids and batteries are removed, and bicycles are also accepted regardless of their condition. Additionally, clean and dry clothing, shoes, and linens are welcome for donation at no cost, but there are items that the event will not take, such as paper for shredding, yard waste, household goods for reuse, hazardous waste, and light bulbs.
For a comprehensive list of what's accepted and tips on preparing for the event, like keeping remodeling debris separate from bulky furniture to expedite the unloading process, check out the full guidelines as provided by the city. Details on how material might be salvaged or reused will be determined on-site by vendors, and it's worth noting that even materials in good condition will incur the standard load fees as posted in the city's cleanup day bulletin.
