St. Louis Park residents and visitors have a bustling weekend ahead with the annual Parktacular Festival, set to enliven the city from June 12 to June 15. This community-centric celebration promises a variety of attractions, including the much-anticipated Grand Day Parade, a lively outdoor concert, a Business Expo showcasing local enterprises, and a plethora of family-friendly activities branded under "Ecotacular" and "Kidtacular". Food aficionados can also look forward to indulging in a range of delicious offerings throughout the fest.
For those with a bend towards environmental consciousness, the Ecotacular event on June 14, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Wolfe Park, located at 3700 Monterey Drive, should not be missed. This segment of Parktacular will feature interactive activities and learning resources on diverse topics such as wildlife, sustainable living, and climate resilience. Interactive stations include animals from Westwood Hills Nature Center, an induction stove presentation by Electrify Everything MN, the Minnesota Toy Library, along with games and initiatives focusing on food waste reduction, provided by Hennepin County.
Adding a twist of civics to the fun, Parktacular attendees can participate in a mock election at Wolfe Park on June 14 from 1:30 – 6 p.m. The mock election incorporates ranked-choice voting, enabling voters to weigh in on the city’s 20-year vision, the theme for "Rollin’ at the ROC", and naming of animals at the Westwood Hills Nature Center. With the city election on the horizon this November, this event stands as both a practical tool and a communal exercise in democracy. Results from this playful yet instructive vote will be shared on the city's website and social media channels during the week of July 7, as mentioned on the festival's informative bulletin.
However, those intending to participate in the festivities should be mindful of certain logistical changes, including partial road closures and parking restrictions, notably on June 14 due to the Grand Day Parade. Affected residents will see driving access limitations from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., while several roads, including Joppa, Inglewood, and Huntington Avenues, will undergo staging preparations for the parade. Additionally, no parking will be allowed on the parade route from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and traffic across Park Commons or Monterey Drive will be barred from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A detailed staging area map and route are available to aid visitors in planning their travels accordingly.
For those eager to join the Parktacular excitement, a complete list of activities and additional event details is accessible on the official Parktacular website.
