In a tender act that goes beyond the typical call of duty, St. Petersburg Police Department's Officer Lenard Cox, endearingly known as "Officer Friendly," has carved a special place in the hearts of preschoolers at Delores M. Smith Early Learning Center. The officer spent quality time reading to the youngsters and engaging with them, an experience chronicled in a recent social media post by his department.
According to the St. Petersburg Police Department's post, Officer Cox shared a special moment with the children who, come fall, will take their first steps into kindergarten. Reflecting on the interaction, he described the children as "an amazing group of future leaders who are eager to learn about the world around them." His efforts to positively influence these young minds clearly strive to consistently promote a sense of community and trust between law enforcement and residents from the earliest age.
The police department's post concluded with an encouraging note addressed to the preschoolers: "Make us proud, future leaders of the world!" Officer Cox's actions serve as an exemplary model of community policing, one that seeks to not only protect but to also inspire and uplift.
