Earlier today, a Suffolk County police officer was stabbed during an attempt to arrest a suspect in Amity Harbor. According to NBC New York, police were responding to a call about two men supposedly casing parked vehicles on Gibbs Road near Coolidge Avenue at around 12:26 a.m. when the incident occurred.
As reported by Patch, upon their arrival, the police apprehended one individual, whereas another attempted to escape. During the altercation that ensued upon locating him, the fleeing suspect wielded a knife and slashed at an officer, striking him in the leg and chin before he was disarmed and apprehended at approximately 1:05 a.m.
The officer, after sustaining injuries that were not life-threatening during the altercation, was quickly transported to a local hospital for treatment. The names of the involved officers and suspects have not been released, and the injured officer has since been released from the hospital.
Authorities have indicated that charges are pending against the two men in connection with the incident. Specific details regarding the alleged offenses or the current status of the suspects have not been released.
