Travelers in Anne Arundel County who frequent the route toward the Chesapeake Bay Bridge must note the upcoming ramp closures set to begin this Friday. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has announced that, starting May 16, the on-ramp from Oceanic Drive (Exit 32) to eastbound US 50/US 301 will be closed periodically every weekend until August 30. This closure will occur from 10 a.m. Fridays to 6 p.m. Saturdays, as reported by FOX Baltimore.

These closures are a strategic move to aid in managing the heavy summer travel through the Broadneck Peninsula. Noted that, as the fourth year of this ramp management project, officials are looking to improve traffic flow and enhance motorists' safety. During the affected times, drivers must redirect using Exit 29 (MD 179 at Busch’s Frontage Road) or Exit 30 (Whitehall Road) to continue their journey eastward on US 50/US 301. Detour and portable variable message signs will guide drivers through alternate routes, as WUSA9 has confirmed.

Motorists are being encouraged to prepare for the changes by planning their travel ahead of time. Real-time traffic conditions are available at MD511.maryland.gov. Meanwhile, any questions about the ramp management program can be directed to the District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or 1-800-331-5603, according to instructions provided by MDOT SHA.
