The Summit County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich, continues to offer the CCW Workshop program, an initiative designed to educate citizens on concealed carry laws and gun safety. According to a social media post from the Sheriff's Office, this program has been running for a year and a half and consistently attracts full attendance.
The workshops began as a response to changes made to CCW laws in 2022, but have since evolved to cover broader issues, including stand your ground and castle doctrine laws, alongside tips for safely carrying and storing firearms. Despite beginning as a simple seminar, the workshops have grown to encompass a larger presentation, where the Sheriff's team and a group of prosecutors actively engage with the community. These sessions aim not just to inform, but also to forge a connection between law enforcement and the public on an issue of mutual concern.
Available to the public at no cost, these CCW Workshops are held throughout Summit County, although registration is required to manage seating capacities. A social media post from the Summit County Sheriff's Office heralds the success and ongoing interest in the program. "We still have packed houses and engaged audiences in each session," the post read, highlighting the commitment to community education on this pressing issue.
The next workshop is scheduled for Tuesday in Akron. Those interested can register through a link posted on the Summit County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page. The CCW Workshop program continues to unfold across the county.
