Yesterday morning in Dearborn Heights, a man armed with an AR-style rifle entered a home and shot two individuals, according to a police report. The incident, which took place in the 4100 block of Weddell Street, resulted in both victims being hospitalized in stable condition, according to information CBS News Detroit obtained from Dearborn Heights Police Chief Ahmad Haidar. The suspect, later identified as Ashante Linelli-Ramon Mcafee, fled the scene in a white Ford F-150, but not before the male victim, shot in the knee, managed to escape and alert authorities.
Additional details emerged as the investigation progressed, indicating that the female victim is believed to be the shooter's ex-girlfriend, was struck three times, while her male companion sustained at least one gunshot wound, ClickOnDetroit reports, the suspect's vehicle was a significant lead that helped law enforcement track him down. After hours of search efforts, Detroit police arrested Mcafee in an area close to Plymouth and Heydan Streets, following a coordinated search.
The initial situation was described as tense, with the suspect considered armed and dangerous. The arrest concluded the immediate law enforcement response to the day’s events in the community. Christine Kondratko, a resident of the neighborhood, expressed her concern to CBS News Detroit, saying, "It's kind of scary."
