Suspect Charged in Daylight Shooting on W Street in Southeast, MPD Seeks Further Information

A shooting disrupted the 1600 block of W Street SE, leaving a woman injured with a gunshot wound. The Metropolitan Police Department has released details about the incident and confirmed the prompt arrest of a suspect in connection with the case. It was around 3:30 p.m. on May 5 when officers from the Seventh District heeded a call: gunshots and a victim in dire need, the victim found conscious though marred by violence; she was promptly ferried to the hospital by DC Fire and EMS and would survive.

On Wednesday, with assistance from the U.S. Park Police, officers arrested 22-year-old LaDarrius Whitaker of Southeast D.C., according to the Metropolitan Police Department. Whitaker has found himself charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) and Destruction of Property, but the case remains open as police continue to search for answers. They are offering up to $10,000 for information leading to a conviction in the shooting on W Street.
