Early Monday morning, a violent incident shook the Riverside community when five residents at Elmer Day Sober Living were found with stab wounds. The Riverside Police Department received an emergency call just before 4 a.m. about a stabbing at the facility, located in the 3800 block of 4th Street, as reported by FOX 11.
One of the victims was hospitalized and is in critical condition. Seeking to contain the situation, officers arrived on the scene to discover the injured parties, and by 7:25 a.m., the suspect, who was also a resident of the home, had already been taken into custody, as reported by CBS Los Angeles.
The suspect had barricaded himself in the home before police could apprehend him shortly after the attack. He, too, was transported to the hospital for possible injuries incurred during the altercation. Although authorities have the suspect in custody, the motive behind the stabbing is still unknown, leaving the community in search of answers.
While the names of those involved have not yet been released, the Riverside Police confirmed that the suspect was a fellow resident believed to have attacked his housemates, leaving one man fighting for his life. "The stabbing was reported just before 4 a.m.," Riverside Police Department Officer Ryan Railsback told NBC Los Angeles, indicating the immediacy with which emergency services responded. The neighborhood was disrupted as the area was closed off for the ongoing investigation by Robbery-Homicide detectives.
