A man has been arrested following a robbery at a Northwest convenience store, as reported by the Metropolitan Police Department. The incident, which took place on Tuesday evening, prompted a swift response from local authorities.
The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, reportedly entered the store located on the 1700 block of 7th Street, Northwest, at around 9:07 p.m. and declared his intent to rob the establishment. According to the MPD's statement, he proceeded to steal various items, including cigarettes and cigars. In the midst of the heist, the employee present managed to escape and alert nearby Third District officers.
The police officers were able to apprehend the suspect as he was attempting to make his getaway with the stolen goods. The quick action of the employee and the proximity of the patrolling officers culminated in an arrest without a prolonged chase or additional incidents.
