A tumultuous chase unfolded across Los Angeles yesterday as a dirt bike rider who is believed to have been armed eluded police across the city's streets. ABC7 reports that the pursuit was captured on camera just before 5:20 p.m. in the South L.A. area, with the rider exhibiting high speeds and dangerous maneuvers, including driving on sidewalks and dodging through traffic.
The pursuit escalated as the individual tore through the southeast neighborhoods of Los Angeles and downtown, SkyFOX observed the rider until they disappeared from view shortly after 5:30 p.m. FOX LA details the chase's path, but reveals little on whether this individual has engaged in violence either before or throughout these events; no arrests had been declared as of the evening's close.
LAPD officers initiated the chase over concerns that the rider could be armed, with CBS Los Angeles noting the motorcyclist's high-speed journey along the 110 Freeway into downtown L.A., where they made their escape after lane-splitting through congested traffic. The pursuit was ultimately called off just before 5:30 p.m., citing the excessive risk due to the suspect's reckless driving behavior.
